Neglected animals seized from Olympia home | Pets
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
The Thurston County Sheriff's Office is in the process of seizing eight starving animals from a residence in Olympia.
The animals — four horses, three dogs and one pot-bellied pig — will be placed at the local shelters and donated pasture land, said Lt. Mike Ware.
It’s the third time deputies have visited the home in the 6000 block of Zangle Road NE after receiving complaints from neighbors about the condition of the animals.
“I would call the housing inadequate and there is no pasture. The animals are kept in small areas and there is a lack of food,” Ware said. “Based on results of all of our visits, we decided one of more of these animals is in jeopardy.”
Ware said the owners will likely face animal cruelty charges.
Animal Services Director Susanne Beauregard said two starving Great Danes prompted authorities to investigate about a week ago.
“The poor animal is walking skeleton,” Beauregard said. “I am worried at this point that we may not be able to save these dogs. I don’t ever remember seeing a dog this thin survive.”
The horses and pig were also showing signs of starvation, she said.
“The little pot-bellied pig is lame on one leg and was following the horse around trying to eat whatever it dropped and that is just wrong,” she said.
Beauregard said the owner has a history of animal neglect in Pierce County.
